Empirical Concepts: Competitive Concepts

  • Live Fire Training Academy 373 Mercer Lane Cottageville, SC, 29435 United States (map)

Competitive Concepts is built for shooters who want to elevate their match performance by developing a deeper, more deliberate understanding of how and why top-level stage plans work. The course focuses on high-impact skills: movement efficiency, throttle control, aggression application, and the ability to dissect a stage with purpose. Students learn not just what a plan should look like, but the reasoning behind every choice — footwork, entry and exit timing, position selection, target priority, risk management, and how to balance speed with control.

Instruction is led by Grandmaster Ryan Lee and Master Class shooter Daniel McAlister, bringing two different perspectives that complement each other on stage planning, execution, and competitive mindset.

Training begins on Day 1 of class. The day is built around running and dissecting multiple practice stages. Students are shown a structured, repeatable method for reading a stage, identifying challenges, determining where to attack and where to stay disciplined, and building a plan that fits their personal shooting style. Ryan and Daniel work with each student rep by rep, refining movement patterns, decision-making, and the underlying logic behind an efficient plan. Every drill connects directly to match performance.

On Day 2, students take everything they’ve learned into a live USPSA match at Palmetto Gun Club in Ridgeville, SC. Each shooter squads with their instructors and receives ongoing coaching throughout the match. The emphasis is on applying their planning process under real pressure — testing plans, adjusting when needed, and walking away with a clearer, more confident framework for future matches. Tuition includes all range fees, training, and match entry.

Class begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m.
Match participation on the following day will follow the squad assignments provided by the host club.
